I’m back with my second post of the day….don’t ask me how I’ve managed to knock out two posts in one day, it’s totally beyond me.
It’s been a little while since I’ve done a book review. I’m immersed in the most amazing novel right now that I cannot wait to share with all of you soon, but today, I’m sharing a different type of book. Young adult isn’t a genre I generally review online, but with the holidays creeping up quickly, I thought I’d share some young adult books that might make some good stocking stuffers or Christmas presents.
Travels with Gannon & Wyatt is a series of two (and a third to be released in January) books about twin brothers who travel the world in search of adventure and a strong desire to learn from history.
In the first book, the twin brothers head off to Botswana and upon arrival, learn about a lion that has been injured by a poacher. Because the lioness is the mother of young cubs who need her, Gannon and Wyatt set off to rescue her from the poacher so that the cubs may survive. This book is excellent for children to learn a little more about the world around them and helps them to think further than what is just outside their front doors. While children will enjoy reading this book for the interesting storyline, they will also learn a bit about social responsibility.
I really like how these stories are set up. The story bounces from the perspective of one brother to the other and is written in journal form. As a child, I loved reading books set up like this because if felt like it was easier to read and you were able to read the books faster.
These books are written for the 9-12 age range, but if you have an advanced reader who is a bit younger, they should be able to follow along with a little help from mom and dad. These books would make a great Christmas gift for inquisitive kids, and while both boys and girls will definitely enjoy the stories, it’s nice to find a series of educational adventure books that will appeal to the boys. We don’t see nearly enough of those!
Travels with Gannon and Wyatt books can be purchased at Amazon and Barnes and Noble.
