Before I get started on this week’s super sinful but amazingly delicious recipe, let me just say that it’s cold here. Really, really cold. I think it’s colder here than anywhere Prince Harry and his team trekked. Our school children making the hike into their schools could put him and his entire expedition team to shame when it comes to braving the elements.
Okay, maybe I exaggerate a little bit…
But you must understand, just one short week ago, this way my view:
So, I suppose you understand the source of my frustration.
Cold weather makes me want to curl up in my home like a bear and hibernate until it gets warmer. I want to eat comforting junk food and hide the resulting fat days under layers and layers of my comfiest clothes.
If you’re into things like this, may I suggest a little brownie bar for your Super Bowl party this weekend. This concept basically requires whipping up a batch of your favorite brownies, either from scratch or from a box…no judging here, and topping them with the most insane Super Bowl food type toppings you can imagine.
This is NOT a recipe for the calorie conscious, but if you follow along with Carrie Math, I’ll show you how this is actually a good, calorie saving idea.
…no, I’m not trying to justify indulging in junk food, why do you ask?
Let’s say that we’re at a Super Bowl party and the hostess has bowls of chips, popcorn, pretzels, peanuts just sitting around for people to munch on. Sounds reasonable, right? If those are just sitting around, you’re probably going to eat them, and I can pretty much guarantee that you’ll eat more of those than what you’ll be sprinkling over the tops of these brownies. So really, I’m saving you calories. You’ll get your chips, pretzels, peanuts fix but in a much smaller quantity than if you were just going to eat them straight from the bowl.
You’re welcome.
So, basically, it goes like this. Grab your brownie. Top it with a sauce of some sort. I used this amazing Salted Bourbon Caramel from our friends at Fat Toad Farm but you can use any of the sauces that can be found in the ice cream sundae section of your grocery store. Then, go crazy with your toppings. I used peanuts, crushed pretzels, and potato chips because that’s what I had on hand, but you could really do anything.
Popcorn. Pecans. Sprinkles. Or if you’re feeling really adventurous, bacon. Yes, for the love of all that is good and pure in the world, try it with BACON.
You’ll throw it all together on your plate and end up with something that looks as amazingly disgusting as this. No, it’s not the most photogenic dessert, but I can promise you, it’s definitely one of the most tasty.
So take Sunday and enjoy the little indulgences, and we’ll all get back to our regularly scheduled healthier eating on Monday.
