Christmas is the most magical time of the year…this is something we can all agree upon, right?
Something about the twinkling lights and the snow and the wonderful kindness that radiates from people more often than any other time of year.
The worst part about Christmas for me, though? Gift giving.
Ok, seriously, I’m kidding. Sort of. I LOVE giving gifts to people. I don’t love the stress with trying to find the absolute perfect gift. You want something that they’ll love but also something that they’ll use. Add on top of that making sure that it’s something that they haven’t already bought for themselves and you’ve got a recipe for stress. (And let’s not forget that you’re most likely buying for more than one person, so the process begins over and over again.)
So, if you have someone on your list that loves food and loves to garden, I’ve got a few suggestions for a fun gift ideas for the gardening foodie.
I recently received my first ever copy of Uncommon Goods in the mail and for some reason, found myself leafing through one lazy afternoon. I was impressed and excited by so many of the products that I saw, so much so that I headed over to their website to see even more products not included in the catalog. I’m sharing just a few of the ones I found that would be perfect for your favorite foodie who loves spending time in the garden. (BTW, This post isn’t sponsored, I just liked what I saw so I’m sharing it with you all.)
Growing your own food is one of the greatest things someone who loves to cook can do. Heading out to the garden on a warm summer day and gathering the ingredients for making your own meal makes you feel like such a superhero.
“Family, I know we have nothing to eat in the pantry. Just let me head out to the garden, I’ll save the day!”
But, if you live in a climate that has a limited growing season, like most people, you know that heading out to the garden on a winter’s day will find you……nothing. Wait, let me rephrase that, you might find something, but what you’ll find is your neighbors looking at you like you’re crazy.
If you still want cook with fresh items from your own “garden”, these products will help make that possible.
1. Growbottle. This little herb garden made from a re-purposed wine bottle is the perfect way to grow herbs indoors during the cold months of winter. Available with Basil, Chives, Oregano, Mint, and Parsley, you’ll be able to grow enough to hold you over until the outdoor growing season begins.
2. Herb Keeper. Once you’ve grown your herbs, keep them fresher longer with this herb keeper. There’s nothing worse than grabbing the herbs you need for a recipe and finding that they’ve gone moldy or have become nasty and shriveled. Seriously, blech!
3. Micro Greens Kit. I think what drew my attention with this item was the fact that it’s both functional and stylish. Who wouldn’t love something like this sitting on their windowsill? The packaging on this item is really clean and streamlined, too…a bonus for a holiday gift. This is available in either spices or veggies. While you’re not going to yield enough to feed your family for months, it serves a purpose in your kitchen and looks amazing while doing so.
4. Postcardens. Is it a postcard? Is it a garden? How do you decide? Maybe it’s both! These mailable post cards pop open and allow you to sprinkle on some seeds, give it some water and watch your amazing 3-D postcard turn into a botanical garden, right in your own home. Adorable, right?
